Weekend events canceled due to weather concerns

Posted

With the National Weather Service calling for heavy rain and high winds as potential tropical storm Ophelia heads up the East Coast, a number of weekend events have been canceled or postponed.

Among them are Potential’s 7th annual Car Show for Autism, Yardley Harvest Day and the New Hope Arts & Crafts Festival. Before venturing out, check the websites of events you planned to attend to see if they too have been canceled or postponed.

Potential Inc. canceled its fundraiser, scheduled for Saturday, because of safety concerns due to the forecast of high winds, said Kristine Quinby, founder, president & CEO of Potential Inc. & Springtime School.

In its place this year, Potential plans to host “cruise events in the near future, where we can showcase our sponsors, maintain the love of cars, and keep the support for Potential's programs at the forefront of our mission,” she said via email.

“We are committed to ensuring that the spirit of the Car Show for Autism lives on in these upcoming gatherings,” she added. To sign up for the cruise- and show-specific emails, visit: https://tinyurl.com/Potential-Inc-Cruise-Events.

Potential’s 8th annual Car Show for Autism is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 28, 2024.

The Yardley Harvest Day website says, “POSTPONED. Please Check Back Soon For a New Date.”

The website for the New Hope Arts & Crafts Festival says the two-day event has been canceled.

“Given the increasingly adverse weather conditions, we've had to make the tough call to cancel this year's Arts & Crafts Festival. While the New Hope Arts & Crafts Festival has traditionally been a rain-or-shine event, we believe this is the best course of action to ensure the safety of all attendees and exhibitors.”

The website adds that organizers are “in the process of planning more events for the future and we greatly appreciate your continued support and flexibility during this time.”

With the forecast calling for steady, heavy rain this Saturday morning, the Easton Farmers’ Market’s 14th annual Hot Pepper Eating Competition has been rescheduled to 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 21.
