The Perkasie Police Department said Wednesday it has recently received several reports that someone is using the Perkasie Police Department phone number and spoofing it on caller ID.
The caller claims to be one of the department’s police officers, even using the actual names of Perkasie police officers, the department said via CrimeWatch. The caller then tells the potential victim they committed a crime or might be in trouble, leading to a request for money, usually in the form of gift cards.
“The Perkasie Police Department will not request money from you over the phone. If you receive a suspicious call from someone claiming to be with our department or another government agency, please contact us to make a report or verify if the caller is legitimate. Do not send any money or payment over the phone,” the department said in the posting.
