It might have been Central Bucks East’s first time in the PIAA tennis doubles tournament since the early 2000s, but the Patriots showed no rust.
Freshman Sal Ponamgi and sophomore Alan Zhang defeated District 12 champion seniors Connor Kryst and Sam Seneca from St. Joe’s Prep 6-4, 6-4 in Friday’s opening round of the 3A championships at the Hershey Racquet Club.
The East duo fell to Palmyra senior twins Aidan and Tyler Mahaffey, the District Three champions, 6-2, 6-1 in Friday afternoon’s quarterfinals.
Ponamgi and Zhang took the bronze in the District One doubles tournament earlier this month.
