“Jean Childs Buzgo: 10th Anniversary Exhibition” to open at Silverman Gallery

Posted

Local, award-winning artist, Jean Childs Buzgo, presents a collection of her newest paintings from May 4 through June 9, at the Silverman Gallery of Bucks County Impressionist Art.

Join the artist for her opening receptions, taking place from 5-8 p.m. Saturday, May 4 and 1-4 p.m. Sunday, May 5. The Silverman Gallery is located in Buckingham Green, 4920 York Road (Route 202), Holicong.

Early on, people were drawn to collect Buzgo’s wide array of work: street scenes, florals, landscapes and paintings of her favorite spots overlooking the Delaware. “When I started, I enjoyed working in a much more representational style. Now I’m painting more by feel, and each viewer can interpret my work in a different way, depending on their point of view. I like to learn and experiment with new materials and processes to keep evolving and moving my art forward.”

Over time, things began to change. Moving toward expressionism and abstraction with larger brushes and more gestural applications of color, Buzgo has found that her audience continues to grow. Preferring to work on several pieces at once gave her the freedom to experiment with color and layering. “I’m observing and interpreting my subjects with a new approach. My paintings may take a lot of different twists and turns before they are finished. I like to leave hints of previous layers underneath, a little mystery for people to connect with.”

Gallery owner Rhonda Garland said, “We are so proud to mark a decade of representing Jean and introducing her lovely paintings to hundreds of collectors through the country. This exhibition showcases Jean’s commitment to creating fresh, vibrant, appealing work … taking a leap forward with no safety net.”

Working from her newly renovated Yardley studio, Buzgo has incorporated mixed media, such as acrylic, pencil, wax crayon, collage, and oil paint that results in a mix of depth and texture. She works on a wide variety of surfaces including canvas, cradle board, birch, and medium density fiberboard. She’ll rotate the canvases or boards as she is working to paint from all directions to enhance spontaneity.

Gallery hours are 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Wednesday-Saturday and 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday. Call 215-794-4300 for information or to set up a private appointment. An online listing of Buzgo’s work can be found at www.silvermangallerybuckscountypa.com.
