Mary Brandt of Warrington (formerly of Southampton) has departed this world on February 21, 2024 at the age of 95, as feisty in the grip of death as she was in life.
Born in Philadelphia, the middle child of Leo A Connor and Margaret McMahon, Mary was proud to be of 100% Irish ancestry. She was blessed to be well-educated, a graduate of Little Flower H.S. (1946) and Chestnut Hill College (1950). She also earned a PA teaching certificate from Temple.
Mary was married to the love of her life (Elmer S Brandt, now decd) for 57 years. While raising five children, she taught school over a 20-year span at Barratt Jr High, Assumption BVM, and Our Lady of Good Counsel (OLGC). She was also very active in OLGC’s church life as Senior Club President, Legion of Mary Officer, Eucharistic Minister, and Funeral Planner.
Mary was well known for her extreme generosity, financially and otherwise. She gave freely and regularly to her church, alma maters, and many other organizations. A few of the many things that Mary enjoyed in this life were crocheting, playing cards, cookies, coffee, cantaloupe, coupons, and driving us all crazy.
Aside from her husband, Mary was predeceased by her brother (Leo Connor Jr.) and two sisters (Ellen Willard and Margie Stickevers Peake). She is survived by one sister Cathy Gilfillan (Joe) and her five children Mary, Paul (Janice), Robert (Sandy), Liz and Vincent; six grandkids; three great-grands; and the wonderful members of her Forest Ridge family.
A funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church in Southampton on Saturday, February 24, 2024 at 10 a.m. Mary will be privately interred next to Elmer at St. John Neumann Cemetery in Chalfont. In lieu of flowers, Mary would much rather have your prayers.
