Violet Schwedt Dierdorff, a resident of Southbury, Conn., since 2017, previously a resident of Warrington, Pa., since 1999, previously a resident of Princeton, N.J., since 1958, passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2023 at Saint Mary’s Hospital, Waterbury, Conn. She was 94.
Violet is predeceased by her husband of 61 years, Lee Henry Dierdorff Jr.
Born in Kenmore, N.Y., Violet was the daughter of the late Milton Conrad and Harriet Schwedt. Violet was raised in Kenmore and graduated from Kenmore High School. She went into banking and was Head Bookkeeper at the Bank of Buffalo.
Vi was active in the Princeton United Methodist Church’s Women’s Society and held several positions including Treasurer. She worked at Gallup Poll and participated in their last Presidential Election prediction campaign.
Sewing was her hobby and she contributed her skills to the making of choir gowns, Alter banners, costumes for Princeton Opera Society, numerous original Halloween costumes for her son and daughter, and an entirely hand-appliqued, hand-embroidered and hand-quilted queen-size quilt for herself.
Violet is survived by a son Lee A. Dierdorff (Danette) and a daughter Deborah Dierdorff Cummings (Jim). She is also survived by two granddaughters, Jessica and Lauren Dierdorff. She was preceded in death by sisters Catherine Schwedt, Mae Schwedt, Myrtle Brennon, and brothers Frank Schwedt, Milton Schwedt Jr., George Schwedt and William Schwedt.
A memorial service celebrating Violet’s life will be held 10 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 18, 2023 at the Shelly Funeral Home, 1460 Easton Road, Warrington, where the family will receive friends from 9 a.m. until the time of service.
