On Durham Road north of Durham, on Durham Road farther north, on Route 212 west of Route 611 and on Ballek Road west of Steely Hill, the roadblocks were not the result of hungry ash borers (“Frequent Upper Bucks power outages blamed on emerald ash borer,” July 18).

The emerald ash borer, an ugly little beetle from northeastern Asia, started invading the United States and Canada in 2002. Now the dead trees left in the bugs’ destructive paths are falling over and knocking out power lines.

Generators keep the juice going

More and more frequently, homeowners are turning to whole house generators for peace of mind and to keep much more than the lights on during a power outage or other emergency.

State Sen. Jarrett Coleman, R-16, has turned to the state Public Utility Commission for a solution to the frequent power outages that have nagged some Durham Township residents for more than a year.

Durham Township supervisors continue to field more and more complaints from residents about frequent power outages — some as long as 15 hours. The entire township is served by Met-Ed, a FirstEnergy Company.
