Posted

The opening reception for “Resilience Through Color” in the ArtWRKD Exhibition Space, 128 S. State St., Newtown, is set for 6 to 9 p.m. July 12, with an artist talk at 7 p.m. that evening.

Marc Schimsky, a life-long trained artist and art educator and his wife, Janis, an emerging artist, have come together for a show of their interconnected works. Their love of color, texture and human emotions is evident as the viewer takes in their wide range of abstract expressionistic and colorful journeys.

At times, working in the same studio, amid the challenges that Marc’s illness brings to the palette, they have been able to take one of the darkest periods in their marriage to produce some of their most astonishing work.

Marc has an affinity for the abstract expressionist style. His work embodies layers of paint, some depicting figures emerging from the background. Janis’ love for creating unique color combinations is derived from blind contour drawings, collage, watercolor and acrylic paintings. Her most recent work depicts a colorful journey inviting viewers to move their eyes through the invariable twists and turns that all of our lives take,

Each of us seeks to find that lifeline that keeps us going through challenging times. Becoming lost in their work has provided Janis and Marc a unique outlet. Their hope is that the viewer can come along on their journey, adding strength and resilience as they gain their own courage to travel through the unexpected.
