Baseball wrap: Quakertown, CB East, South Hunterdon start playoffs

No. 9 Archbishop Wood (6-8 PCL) lost 7-0 at No. 1 La Salle in Sunday’s Philadelphia Catholic League quarterfinal.

Monday was a tough day for local teams in District One 6A first-round action. No. 23 Council Rock South (9-12) lost 11-6 at No. 10 Garnet Valley. No. 18 Pennridge (12-9) fell 4-3 to No. 15 Haverford, with the Fords taking on No. 2 Neshaminy in Wednesday’s second round. And No. 24 Council Rock North (11-10) was nipped 6-5 at No. 9 Wissahickon. The Trojans played at No. 8 Downingtown East on Wednesday.

No. 1 Faith Christian (16-0) topped No. 4 Plumstead Christian (10-5) 9-1 on Thursday in the District One A semifinal. Faith plays No. 3 Delco Christian in Thursday’s final at Boyertown. Plumstead’s six-game win streak came to an end; the Lions have mercy ruled 11 opponents.

Three teams had late Wednesday playoff games. In District One 6A, No. 1 Quakertown (15-5), the SOL Liberty champion, took on No. 16 Avon Grove. The Panthers have allowed just two runs over their last three games.

No. 7 Central Bucks East (14-6), the Colonial champion, also earned a first-round bye like Quakertown and hosted No. 10 Garnet Valley. Lastly, in the District 11 Class 2A tournament, No. 3 Palisades (11-9) hosted No. 6 Shenandoah Valley.

No. 3 South Hunterdon (12-9) will host No. 14 Highland Park when the Central Jersey Group 1 sectional starts on Thursday.
