Beat summer heat at PA Horticultural Society’s pop up and public gardens

Posted

The Pennsylvania Horticultural Society’s (PHS) Pop Up Gardens and other PHS Public Gardens and Landscapes are now in full bloom across the region, offering the perfect “Heatwave Haven” for those looking to escape the heat this summer.

The PHS Pop Up Gardens on South Street and in Manayunk offer a full lineup of refreshing, cold cocktails, mocktails, rainbow-hued frozen drinks, shotsicles (an alcoholic twist on the popsicle), along with snacks. Bask in the sunshine or enjoy covered and shaded areas throughout the gardens. Plus, both gardens now have TVs installed, making these gardens the perfect venues for your Phillies or Summer Olympics watch party

Stop by the Manayunk Pop Up Garden and enjoy a woodland-inspired plant palate, game room including foosball and Pop-a-Shot, and plenty of shaded seating. Or, stop by the South Street Pop Up Garden in Center City and take in the beauty of lush, tropical-inspired plantings, a covered pergola, and shade sails to keep cool.

Both gardens also offer a lineup of special events and horticulture-focused classes, perfect for anyone looking to get their hands in the dirt this season or make a unique craft.

PHS’s gardens along the exterior of the Rodin Museum offer another excellent venue to seek out sun, shade, or a seated respite while exploring Philadelphia’s iconic Ben Franklin Parkway this summer. For those seeking a green summer shade garden, the Azalea Garden offers plenty of tree-covered shade, lush green plantings, and annuals, tucked behind the Philadelphia Museum of Art.

Experience PHS Meadowbrook Farm, PHS’s picturesque gardens in Montgomery County, featuring a historic estate. This stunning property features several unique garden “rooms” with a cottage core aesthetic, making it the perfect venue for a Bridgerton-inspired photo shoot. With many shady enclaves and trees throughout the gardens, this is a stunning venue for beating the heat. PHS will also be holding monthly garden tours of Meadowbrook Farm. Registration is available at PHSOnline.org.
