Boys soccer: East sweeps CBs

Posted

The Central Bucks East boys soccer team earned some time off this Labor Day weekend.

On Thursday, the host Patriots (2-1) defeated sister school Central Bucks South 3-0. Two days prior at War Memorial Field, East beat archrival Central Bucks West 2-0 behind two second half goals.

The South win temporarily gave East the top spot in the extremely early 4A District One power rankings. Michael Montabana got East on the board 25 minutes into the game and Andrew Walloff added a score two minutes later. Joey Roth, who assisted on Montabana’s goal, scored early in the second half on a free kick. Defensively, the Patriots also posted their second straight shutout.

These rivals last met in district playbacks on Nov. 1, with the winner advancing to states and the loser’s season ending. East edged South 1-0 to go to PIAAs.

Montabana, who was the lone junior to make the All-SOL Colonial first team last year, has a point in all three East games. Roth and Walloff both picked up their second goals of the season.

CB South (1-1) looked good in its opener, beating Souderton 2-0 behind goals from Nate MacLeod and Evan Jaskelewicz.

Both teams are next back in action on the road in Wednesday late games. South will take on rival CB West while East heads to Pennridge.
