Council Rock South sophomore Dasha Chichkina finished second in the Nov. 4-5 PIAA 3A singles championships. Her duel with Unionville’s Grace Li in the finals was a rematch of the district championship match. Chichkina, who made the PIAA final four last year, went home with a silver medal after Li’s 6-4, 6-2 win.
Chichkina overwhelmed District 10 champion Trinity Fox 6-0, 6-0 in Friday’s first round and dispatched District Seven champion Amelia Williams in three sets on the same day. Chichkina beat District One third-place finisher Mia Matriccino 6-2, 6-2 in Saturday morning’s semifinal to set up the afternoon finale.
The Council Rock South tennis team’s run came to an end in the PIAA 3A quarterfinals in Hershey one week earlier. Chichkina won the first singles point over Sophia Cunningham 6-1, 6-0, and teammate Michelle Lerman topped Jessie Yang 6-2, 6-2 for the second singles point. But District Seven champion Mount Lebanon won both doubles points and the third singles point to bounce CR South with a 3-2 win.
The third seed from District One, CR South commanded District 12 champion Central 5-0 in the opening round.
