Doylestown Symphonic Winds to award scholarships at free weekend concert

Posted

Doylestown Symphonic Winds will host a free concert at 7:30 p.m. July 19 in the Holland Middle School auditorium in Northampton Township.

“Old, New, Borrowed, Blue” will feature the music of Oscar Navarro, Frank Ticheli, Charles Ives, Mark Camphouse and others under the direction of Gina Lenox and guest conductor Dr. Joseph Higgins, who is director of bands at Rowan University.

During the concert, the nonprofit ensemble will present Mark Hintenlang Memorial Scholarship Awards to two area high school musicians. The scholarship is named for a longtime member of the group who died in 2022.

The top prize — a $1,000 scholarship — goes to North Penn High School’s Aaron Kershner, who plays the saxophone.

The $500 runner-up award will be given to Julianna Silvano, a clarinet player from Neshaminy High School.
