Lacrosse wrap: Rams boys, girls in playbacks

Pennridge boys and girls, each winners of the SOL National, both found themselves in District One Class 3A lacrosse playbacks at press time.

The No. 5 Pennridge boys (16-4) beat No. 12 Downingtown West 10-9 in overtime in last Thursday’s second-round game. Cole Nitterour won the faceoff and took it straight in for the winning goal six seconds later. No. 4 Radnor beat Pennridge 18-4 in Tuesday night’s quarterfinal, forcing the Rams into a Thursday playback against No. 9 Upper Dublin.

The No. 8 Pennridge girls (14-6) beat No. 9 Plymouth Whitemarsh 12-7 in the second round behind Madigan Posey’s four goals. No. 1 Downingtown West downed the Rams 19-7 in Tuesday’s quarterfinal, placing Pennridge into a Thursday playback at No. 5 Downingtown East.

The lacrosse season ended for many area teams this week. In the District One 3A boys tournament second round on Thursday, No. 6 Central Bucks West (14-4) lost to No. 11 Ridley 7-6. No. 10 Central Bucks East (12-7) fell at No. 7 Spring-Ford 13-8 and No. 13 Central Bucks South (11-8) got tripped up by Radnor 17-6. In Friday’s Philadelphia Catholic League quarterfinal, No. 6 Archbishop Wood (6-6 PCL) lost to No. 3 Devon Prep 17-4.

On the girls side, No. 13 New Hope-Solebury (8-11) lost to No. 4 Bishop Shanahan 15-2 in the first round of the District One 2A tournament last Wednesday. No. 15 Council Rock North (12-5) fell at No. 2 Radnor 17-5 in the District One 3A second round last Thursday.

No. 2 Archbishop Wood (8-4 PCL) beat No. 3 Cardinal O’Hara 15-7 in last Wednesday’s PCL semifinals. Wood lost to defending state champion No. 1 Archbishop Carroll 25-2 in Monday’s final at Gwynedd Mercy.
