Legion baseball: Quakertown wins league championship

Posted

The Bux-Mont American Legion tournament is double elimination. But No. 1 Quakertown didn’t need any losses whatsoever to claim the league title.

The host Blue Jays (21-1), who were the regular season Bux-Mont champions, used six unanswered runs to turn a 2-2 game midway through four into an 8-2 romp over No. 2 Perkiomen in Monday’s championship. Peyton Myers, the lone Upper Bucks Christian product on Quakertown’s roster, got the win.

Quakertown, the defending Pennsylvania Region 2 and state champion, went 4-0 in the tournament.

No. 8 Hatfield put up a fierce fight in Thursday’s first round and Quakertown needed a walk-off two-run single from Tanner Clancy to escape with a 5-4 win. Joshua Camacho and Caleb Everitt both had two hits and two RBIs in Friday’s 10-0 win over No. 4 Plumstead. Cole Reich, who had a double and an RBI in the first two games, had three big RBIs in Saturday’s 7-3 winner’s bracket victory over No. 3 Pennridge.

Perkiomen punched its ticket to the Region 2 tournament in Sunday’s loser’s bracket game with a 9-6 win over Pennridge. Pennridge topped Perkiomen 5-2 in the second round of the tournament, forcing Perkiomen to win two straight elimination games in order to advance to the final.

The double elimination Region 2 tournament in Macungie starts on July 20.
