Robert Nagg Memorial Game raises funds for stadium improvement projects New Hope-Solebury

Posted

The 12th annual Robert Nagg Memorial Game, held May 11, netted over $6,500 for New Hope-Solebury stadium improvements.

Friendly competition took place between the current New Hope-Solebury high school boys and girls soccer teams against recent NH-S alumni. Once again, the NH-S boys alumni came away with a win, outscoring the high school team 2-1. The girls game ended with a tie 0-0.

Event sponsors included Solebury Soccer Club, Solebury Parks & Recreation and New Hope Helping. Event supporters included Holly Hedge Estates, Heath’s Service Station, McCaffrey’s Market, Cole’s Nursery, New Hope Community Church, Farley’s Bookstore, Jersey Mike’s and local families. Two event supporters were recognized for their longtime service to the New Hope-Solebury community: Living Earth, celebrating its 50th year, and New Hope Photo, its 39th.

Thanks to the sponsorship of American Legion Post 79 of New Hope, concessions were made available for the first time since COVID 2020.

With support from the board of school directors, in recent years the district embarked on transformative improvements to its main athletic field to address critical maintenance needs. The first phase included the installation of a brand new track and turf field. A second phase of construction begins this summer to build a stadium complex, including a fieldhouse equipped with concessions, restrooms, team rooms and new press box.

To be named New Hope-Solebury’s Asplundh Stadium, the project was funded largely by philanthropic contributions, including an initial $65,000 from the Robert Nagg Memorial Fund.

The Memorial Game is held in honor of Robert Nagg, an NH-S student and member of the boys soccer team. After a courageous two-year battle with brain cancer, Robert passed away in 2013 at the age of 17. Founded by teammate Jaxon Vallely (NH-S Class of 2012), the game is a time for current players and alumni to reunite and celebrate Robert’s passion for soccer.

Vallely now serves in pediatric oncology in Robert’s memory.
