Sellersville ES students get active while getting instruction

Posted

Exercise for Education is the largest fundraiser of the year at Sellersville Elementary School and, on May 16, it allowed students to spend the day outside exploring ways to be active while having fun.

The lessons come from local businesses specializing in youth sports and fitness. They run stations where students learn new ways to move and be healthy.

Caitlin Ehrmann, a member of Sellersville Elementary Parents & Teachers United, said: “Exercise for Education was born from the reflection of parents who wanted to work with the building staff to think of new ways to engage students in a variety of activities beyond just running.”

According to Ehrmann, students remain at each station for 15 to 20 minutes.

“This is a great way for students to learn if there’s an activity or sport they find interesting,” she said. “But it is also beneficial to the businesses hosting stations because it provides them with exposure and opportunities to promote themselves.”

This year those businesses included Pinnacle Volleyball Academy in Bedminster, which is owned by a former Sellersville Elementary School student.

High school students from the Pennridge Unified Track team also showed up to teach third-graders how to throw a javelin.
