“Sheer Joy” artworks utilizing pantyhose on view at ArtWRKD

Posted

ArtWRKD, 128 S. State St., Newtown, hosts “Sheer Joy,” a visually and intellectually stimulating experience through Aug. 17.

The solo exhibition by Lucine is divided into two distinct collections:

Ripping the Seams: This collection delves into the historical interplay between hosiery and feminist movements, offering a profound exploration of how these seemingly everyday items have played a role in the broader narrative of women’s liberation.

Liberation: In this collection, Lucine reimagines the classic story of the “Wizard of Oz,” infusing it with new meaning and layers of interpretation through her unique pantyhose medium.

Lucine’s work has been celebrated for its compositional strength and its ability to challenge and expand the boundaries of traditional fiber art. Her innovative use of pantyhose transforms this everyday material into powerful visual statements that resonate with both historical significance and contemporary relevance.

The Newtown Borough native has joined ArtWRKD’s Artist in Residence program and is a newly signed represented artist with ArtWRKD Gallery. The gallery celebrates Lucine for her groundbreaking use of pantyhose as a 2D fiber art medium and for captivating audiences worldwide with her innovative and thought-provoking works throughout her 11-year career. Her art is deeply rooted in the conceptual themes of feminism and fashion within fine art.
