Tips for growing herbs indoors

Posted

Maybe you received — or gifted — a rosemary plant or topiary this past holiday season. Or perhaps you had a glorious potted rosemary plant growing outdoors. You brought your prized plant inside, and now it’s looking grim.

“I’ve found herbs do best indoors when they are started or already growing indoors,” said George Schick, retail greenhouse manager at Bountiful Acres in Buckingham Township.

Many herbs, like rosemary or oregano, are native to dry, Mediterranean areas like Italy or Greece.

Rosemary is drought tolerant – to a point – and will do best indoors in a cool room away from direct heat sources.

TenthAcreFarm.com recommends setting rosemary plants on a tray with gravel, and keeping the tray watered. Water the plant about every two weeks.
