Vintage baseball returns to Lambertville

Posted

Enjoy the Grand Old Game on Saturday, Aug. 3 at Ely Field in Lambertville, N.J., when two vintage baseball teams play a doubleheader using the rules and equipment from 1864 and 1866.

Beginning at 11 a.m., the Logan Club of Lambertville and the Flemington Neshanock squad will take the diamond for two seven-inning games. A Lambertville team first took on a Flemington club 158 years ago.

“Lambertville Historical Society is excited to host vintage baseball games for a second year,” said Jeff Campbell, LHS president. “The fact that the 1866 game is a reenactment of an actual game that took place in Lambertville makes the event truly special.  Baseball played a central role in the social and cultural life of Lambertville during the second half of the 19th century and the first half of the 20th century. These games may perhaps remind us that, at least in some ways, the past is not so different from the present.”

For more information on the two teams, visit their websites at loganclub.org and Neshanock.org. Each game is expected to last approximately 90 minutes.

The family-friendly event is sponsored by the Lambertville Historical Society with the City of Lambertville. Admission is free but donations to the historical society are welcome.
