The Warrington Cares Sprint Triathlon is scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 10, with a start time of 7 a.m.

The event begins and ends at the Mary Barness Community Pool, 2501 Freedoms Way, Warrington. The race consists of a 300-meter swim, a 10-mile bike ride and a 5K run through the streets of Warrington.

In addition to the triathlon, athletes can participate in:

Duathlon – a two-part race consisting of a 10-mile bike ride and a 2-mile run

Triathlon relay – a team of three people who each perform a segment of the race individually.

The aquavelo, duathlon, triathlon and triathlon relay are ideally suited for persons starting out as triathletes and those who are training for major triathlons. Medals will be awarded to the top three finishers for men and women and for the top three finishers in each age category.

Entry fees are as follows: $85 for the triathlon, $75 for the duathlon or aquavelo, and $115 for the triathlon relay.

The Warrington Cares Sprint Triathlon is the major fundraiser for Warrington Cares, raising over $100,000 over the past five races. Proceeds from this year’s event will provide: scholarships to local high school students; funds for local food banks/pantries; support for local families in need; and assistance to other small, local nonprofit organizations that help the community.

The official timekeeper for the Warrington Cares Sprint Triathlon is DQ Events.

Registration for this year’s event is completely digital and all participants must sign up online. Event organizers are not providing paper applications, nor are they accepting cash. In 2014, a group of Warrington Township employees founded and chartered the Warrington Cares Employee Charity. The 501(C)3 tax exempt organization is represented by municipal employees from all departments including police, fire, public works, parks and recreation and township office staff. Warrington Cares was created as a means to raise funds for local causes.

All funds raised will be directed toward providing funds to local families in need, annual scholarships to graduating high school seniors who reside in Warrington Township, making donations to nonprofit organizations and supporting local food banks/pantries.
