Posted

The Lambertville Police Department is reportedly investigating the theft of about $10,000 in merchandise from a city jewelry store.

The Greater Lambertville Chamber of Commerce put out word of the theft on Monday afternoon, attributing the information to the police.

According to the chamber’s statement “on behalf of the Lambertville Police Department” the incident occurred at about 4 p.m. Wednesday.

A man and a woman entered an unidentified jewelry store and selected three diamond rings and a gold pin for purchase and then assisted the cashier in wrapping up the jewelry in a gift bag.

They said they would pay a portion of the price in cash and put the balance on a credit card but that they had to get the cash from their vehicle.

They exited the store, leaving the gift bag behind. An hour later, after the pair hadn’t returned, store employees attempted to return the items to the display case but found the gift bag empty.

Both the man and the woman were captured on surveillance video. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Lambertville Police at 609-397-3132 or email Cpl. Matt Bast at mbast@lambertvillepolice.org.
