50 new citizens pledge allegiance at Falls naturalization ceremony

Posted

Fifty people from 27 countries recently completed the naturalization process, took the Oath of Allegiance and became United States citizens at Pennsbury Manor in Falls Township.

Organizers say the annual swearing-in ceremony is one of the most unique in the country, due to its bucolic setting along the Delaware River in front of the reconstructed Manor House of William Penn.

“Over 340 years ago, William Penn established a colony that embraced a broad group of religions and people from diverse backgrounds and countries,” said Doug Miller, Historic Site Administrator at Pennsbury Manor. “This year we see the continuation of Penn’s legacy in the accomplishments and hopes of these new citizens of our United States.”

The ceremony featured the singing of The Star-Spangled Banner, welcoming remarks from Miller, administration of the oath, a pledge of allegiance, remarks from Bucks County Bar Association President Tyler Tomlinson, and from one of the new citizens. It also offered refreshments provided by the Washington Crossing Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution.
