Application window open for state Cultural and Historical Support Grants

Posted

Pennsylvania Historical & Museum Commission (PHMC) has opened the application window for Cultural and Historical Support Grants.

Subject to the availability of funding, the program offers nearly $2 million in funding to eligible museums and historical societies across the Commonwealth.

“Museums and historical organizations connect visitors with people, places, events, and ideas from our collective past, imparting the wisdom learned through hardship and perseverance for future generations,” PHMC Executive Director Andrea Lowery said. “These grants enable Pennsylvania’s museums and historical societies to make those connections, to tell our stories, by providing educational opportunities for all and building tourism opportunities for our communities.”

The Cultural and Historical Support Grants Program is available to:

•Eligible museums located in Pennsylvania with annual operating budgets exceeding $100,000 and at least one full-time professional staff person with the maximum award being $65,000. Note: This grant is not available to museums that are eligible for support from other state agencies.

•Official county historical societies, with awards up to $4,000.

All applications must be completed by midnight on Friday, Aug. 23. All PHMC grant applications are now submitted on the Commonwealth’s Single Application for Assistance system. The PHMC website has eligibility information and grant guidelines.

To confirm eligibility or learn about the application process, contact Rusty Baker, executive director of PA Museums, at 717-909-4951 or c-rubaker@pa.gov. PA Museums is assisting PHMC with the administration of the grant program.

This marks the 12th year of the program, a collaborative effort between PHMC and the state legislature that has awarded nearly $22 million since its inception to strengthen Pennsylvania’s vibrant cultural landscape.
