“Bomb scare” evacuates Shir Ami school in Newtown Twp

Posted

Police responded to Shir Ami, in Newtown Township, at 12:05 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 14, after the synagogue received “an email threat of a bomb scare” at its facility.

For the safety of the children, the synagogue made the decision to evacuate the children from the school and notified the police department. An immediate police response by Newtown Police and Newtown Emergency Services was initiated, resulting in “a negative search” by school and police personnel in addition to ordinance K9s, which were training locally.

Children were temporarily relocated to an alternate site while the search was conducted. Investigators and FBI are coordinating the investigation as this has been reported to have occurred at other locations within the state, Newtown Township Police said. According to published reports, the FBI and other police departments also are investigating bomb threats targeting synagogues in Pennsylvania and multiple other states across the country, including the Germantown Jewish Centre in Philadelphia.
