Bridge dedication to honor memory of WWII sailor

Posted

The first of five bridge dedications to a Plumstead resident who lost his life serving his country – this one in World War II – will take place at 10:30 a.m. Saturday.

The bridge over Pine Run is located on Bergstrom Road between Landisville Road and Nottingham Way. Parking is at Allohaken Park, 4731 Landisville Road, Doylestown. Road closures will be in effect after 10 a.m.

The bridge dedication will honor Albert LeRoy Angeny, Electricians Mate 2nd Class, U.S. Navy. He lost his life on Jan. 4, 1945, while serving aboard the U.S.S. Ommaney Bay in the Sulu Sea, west of the Philippines. The ship sustained heavy damage when it was hit by a Japanese Kamikaze warplane. Angeny was one of the 95 sailors who were lost at sea. He was 24.
