Bucks County Community College gets $2M for workforce training programs

Posted

Bucks County Community College has been awarded $2 million from the U.S. Department of Energy through its ITAC (Industrial Assessment Centers) Program.

The money supports a project titled “Scaling the Manufacturing Workforce to Include Clean Energy in Pennsylvania.”

According to a description at www.energy.gov the community college plans to expand access to its “Metalwork and Industrial Maintenance pre-apprenticeship programs; launch a new Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) Technician program; embed clean energy and energy efficiency content across advanced manufacturing training programs; and deliver incumbent worker training to the college’s extensive network of 170+ SMM (small and medium sized manufacturer) employer partners.”

The department of energy announced the awards on July 29.

“With over 800 manufacturing facilities coming to America since the start of the Biden-Harris Administration, there’s no question that a strong manufacturing sector – and a workforce that supports it – is vital to our nation’s economy,” U.S. Secretary of Energy Jennifer M. Granholm said in a press release. “Our Industrial Training and Assessment Centers will provide necessary training opportunities and reduce barriers to good paying, union jobs that will boost our clean energy economy.”

In total, this round of awards supported 21 projects around the country and represented a $24 million investment of funds from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law to bolster clean energy and workforce training programs, according to the department of energy press release.
