Bucks Opportunity Council receives Bank of America grant

Posted

Bucks County Opportunity Council (BCOC), a nonprofit organization dedicated to reducing poverty has received a $10,000 grant from Bank of America.

The grant will help support the Economic Self-Sufficiency (ES) Program, which works to improve economic mobility in Bucks County by empowering low-income families with the education, skills, and resources necessary to achieve and maintain economic self-sufficiency without any future need for cash welfare subsidies. Last year, BCOC provided shelter, food, educational opportunities, and job placement for more than 56,000 residents in Bucks County.

“We understand that poverty is not just a lack of financial resources, but a complex web of interconnected challenges. It encompasses the social determinants of health, including access to adequate housing, nutritious food, employment opportunities, and education. By addressing these fundamental needs, we not only alleviate immediate suffering but also lay the foundation for long-term stability and prosperity,” said Erin Lukoss, executive director.

“We appreciate Bank of America’s generous support and continued investment in our Economic Self-Sufficiency Program.”

The grant is part of Bank of America’s philanthropic giving efforts in local communities. Awardees were selected for their commitment to address basic needs and workforce development for individuals and families.

“For more than 55 years, Bucks County Opportunity Council has been the county’s leading nonprofit organization serving low-income families,” said Jim Dever, president, Bank of America Greater Philadelphia. “We stand behind BCOC’s work to end poverty by connecting families to the resources they need that will help individuals and families find financial stability and advance.”
