Posted

Three Bucks County residents – Riley Smith, Harshavi Birla and Zoey McElveen – are among 20 students to receive Dunkin’ Philadelphia Regional Scholarships, which awards $100,000 in academic scholarships to high school and college students in the Greater Philadelphia Area.

The program helps local students in Southeastern Pennsylvania, Southern New Jersey, and Kent and New Castle counties in Delaware pursue a part-time or full-time undergraduate degree at the institution of their choice.

From over 1,260 applicants, Dunkin’ and Scholarship America selected 20 students to receive a $5,000 academic scholarship to an accredited two or four-year college, university, or vocational-technical school of their choice for fall 2024. Dunkin’s Philadelphia Regional Scholarship Program was open to current part-time and full-time undergraduate students and high school seniors. Dunkin’ awarded a total of $100,000 to the 20 recipients who were selected based on their academic records, demonstrated leadership skills, and overall commitment to their schools and local communities.

Smith, of Doylestown, is a recent graduate of Central Bucks High School West. At CB West, Smith was president of the Environmental Club, president of the Peers Pals, and officer for Key Club and STEM Research Club. She is a National Merit finalist and the Doylestown Borough Youth Leadership Award recipient.

In the fall, Smith will attend Cornell University, where she plans to pursue a degree in environment and sustainability.

Birla, of Yardley, is a recent graduate of Pennsbury High School, where she was an avid community leader and part of the Council of Indian Organizations in Greater Philadelphia. Harshavi is a current employee at Dunkin’.

In the fall, she will attend Purdue University, where she plans to pursue a degree in aerospace engineering.

McElveen, of Bristol, is a recent graduate of Bucks County Technical High School, where she was a member of the National Honors Society and National Technical Honors Society. She also was salutatorian for the Class of 2024.

In the fall, McElveen will attend Pennsylvania College of Technology, where she plans to pursue a degree in power generation.

To date, the Dunkin’ Philadelphia Regional Scholarship Program has awarded $800,000 in scholarships to 360 outstanding high school seniors and college students. The program was founded in 2009 by Dunkin’s Philadelphia-area franchisees to ease the financial burden of college for students throughout the region.

The 2024 Dunkin’ Philadelphia Regional Scholarship recipients will be honored at an awards ceremony on Tuesday, July 23 at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia.
