Warrington Township police said two Central Bucks South students showed noteworthy behavior when they didn’t hesitate to offer assistance at the scene of a recent “significant” traffic accident.
Warrington School Resource Officer Robert Bell said Benjamin Schubert, 18, and Thomas McDonald, 17, “exhibited commendatory qualities that morning” of April 5. “We are proud to recognize that.”
The young men were driving to school in separate vehicles in heavy traffic near Bristol and Stuckert roads, where the nearby Tamanend Middle School was opening, when they were almost involved in the “serious crash,” said Sgt. Kenneth Hawthorn, one of several officers who responded to the accident.
“It was a serious crash with multiple vehicles and an injured driver going through a possible medical event,” he said.
McDonald and Schubert immediately pulled over and checked on the driver.
“They also physically popped open the damaged driver side door to open it and visually check on the driver,” said Hawthorn.
The sergeant said he also called the teens’ parents, wanting to let them know, “As a parent and a police officer, they should be proud of their kids, and they raised them right.”
Bell asked that the young men receive certificates and “challenge coins.” The coins are part of the police department’s Community Policing initiative. They recognize the department’s “commitment and partnership with the community,” noted Hawthorn.
