Champs! Blue Jays win region, off to states

Posted

Danny Qualteria, a St. Peter’s signee, hit two, two-run singles as Quakertown topped host Lower Macungie 10-5 on Wednesday afternoon in the American Legion Region 2 championship game.

Quakertown, the reigning region champ and 2024 Bux-Mont League champion, successfully defended its title. Qualteria and Caleb Everitt each knocked three hits in the game.

Northampton handed Quakertown its first tournament loss Tuesday night in the double elimination tournament. But in Wednesday’s doubleheader, host Lower Mac eliminated Northampton to set up the championship game. It was the second time in four days that Quakertown beat Lower Macungie; the Blue Jays won 5-2 in Sunday’s second round.

Quakertown, the defending state champion, advances to the eight-team Pennsylvania State Legion Tournament. That double elimination tournament will be held July 27-31 at North Allegheny High in Wexford.

Last season, Quakertown became the first Bucks County team since Doylestown (2012) and Bristol (2011) to take home the state trophy.
