Clayton H. Long, II

Clayton Long, 93, of Doylestown, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, July 29, 2024. He was the husband of Constance L. Long for 64 years until her passing in 2022.

He was the son of the late Julius and Martha Long and was born in the first Doylestown Hospital on East Oakland Avenue. He was raised on Hillside Avenue in the Borough.

Clayton left school after the ninth grade and worked as a wallpaper hanger in town and the surrounding area for over 65 years. Not much for retirement, he worked another 15 years as a driver for Fred Beans Family Dealership.

He and Connie spent cherished time with family and friends at home and in the Poconos. They traveled the U.S. extensively including favorite spots on Hutchinson Island, FL, Mesa, AZ, Jacksonville, OR and Wells, ME. Many happy hours were enjoyed over a Manhattan cocktail or glass of wine. Clayton was a regular for coffee at Tilley’s and Maryanne’s where he enjoyed shooting the bull with his good friends.

Clayton was a life member of the Doylestown Fire Company for 74 years from 1950. He served as a firefighter, communications officer and trustee. Clayton was also a past President of the O.P. James Ambulance Service as well as a past President of the Pine Flats Association of Pike County. He was a member of Salem United Church of Christ, the Union Horse Company and enjoyed his time as a Band Parent at Central Bucks East High School.

He is survived by his daughters: Linda L. McRee (Michael) and Lisa A. Phillips (Wayne) all of Doylestown. He will be remembered lovingly by his four grandchildren, Adam J. Phillips, Hunter Clayton McRee, Erin L. McRee, and Jessica A. Phillips. He was predeceased by his brother, George A. Long.

Relatives and friends are invited to his memorial service at 2 p.m., Saturday, August 17 at Doylestown Fire Company, 68 Shewell Avenue, Doylestown where the family will greet guests from 1 p.m., until the time of the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Clayton’s name may be made to Doylestown Fire Company, 68 Shewell Avenue, Doylestown, PA 18901.
