Wampole announces upcoming resignation from Souderton Council

Posted

Council member Courtnee L. Wampole for Ward 3, announced her pending resignation at Souderton Council’s work session.

Wampole advised that her family will be moving out of state, to Wyoming, due to a job offer that came her way. She said she will present her resignation at the next scheduled meeting, which is Aug. 7. Her term is set to expire on Dec. 31, 2025.

Wampole was elected to council in November 2021 and sworn in in January 2022. She is the chair of the Economic Development Committee, co-chair of Parks and Recreation and sits on the Public Outreach Committee.

While the council and community will miss Wampole and her tenure on council, this move fulfills her five-year plan for the family to move out west. An opportunity fell into her lap in Wyoming and this was the opportunity to make their family goal come true.

Souderton Council will start its search for her replacement shortly.

The work session held a lively and lengthy debate on pending revisions to an ordinance on murals. While an ordinance currently reflects no permit required for art, the existing ordinance requires one for murals. Some modifications were discussed and agreed to and some areas are still in the discussion phase.

Owners of Exhibit B Gallery on Main St., Harry and Heather Boardman, provided their feedback to council members as they are working with council on a pending mural on the facade of their building. The issue will likely be presented for a vote during the Aug. 7 meeting.

In Police Chief Brian Newhall’s updates, he stated that there were two recent violations of the BusPatrol camera system – drivers failing to stop when red lights are flashing and when there is an extended red stop sign.

Borough Manager Mike Coll reported that plans are underway and moving along on the municipal building renovation project.

Julie Munden, the lead member of the Search Committee advised that they have narrowed down their list of candidates for Borough Manager. Souderton Borough’s website shows that there is a Special Executive session, not open to the public, on Wednesday night, July 26, to discuss the recommendations of the Borough Search Committee.

Work around the Freight building is ongoing and expected to wrap up around the end of August. Additionally, a cleanup is in progress on the Chestnut Street parking area next to Downtown Scoop.

The next scheduled Borough Council meeting is 7 p.m. Aug. 7, at the Souderton Municipal building.
