Good of Green Farm Tour

Posted

Prompted by high-school student Alexis Cho, a “Good of Green” farm tour at Spring Creek Farm on Meetinghouse Road in Solebury Friday, July 18, reconnected visitors with farming.

Approximately 20 tour participants got a behind-the-scenes look at working on the farm and experienced presentations about delivering healthy, great-tasting food and building a brighter tomorrow together through regenerative farming.

There also was an opportunity for participants who wished, to work on the farm for an hour or less with hands-on tasks involving animal feeding, weeding or harvesting.

Spring Creek Farm sits on 165 acres of rolling pasture. The farm grows Certified Organic fruits and vegetables, and raises 100% grass-fed and finished beef and Certified Organic eggs from its pasture-raised hens.

Spring Creek Farm uses regenerative agriculture to enrich the soil and surrounding habitats through conservation tillage, cover cropping, and rotationally grazing its animals, according to the farm’s website.

It also plants native trees and increases pollinator habitat acreage for its growing honeybee populations and migratory birds. Crop irrigation utilizes fresh, clean spring water and electricity is supplied from solar panels.

“Farmers Jeremey Mulino and Matt Dingle with landowner Brent Alderfer are committed to building an environmentally sustainable agriculture model that restores farmland and preserves the natural beauty of this community for generations to come,” the website states.
