Bucks County Herald columnist and author Lisa DeAngelis was named a 2024 Courage to Write grant recipient by The de Groot Foundation.

The private family foundation, based in Miami Beach, Fla., is dedicated to supporting the literary arts, discovering new voices and encouraging emerging writers. Grants are awarded to deserving writers as they further or complete a specific project that has come to the attention of the foundation.

DeAngelis writes the weekly business column, “It’s a Living,” for the Herald. The column focuses on interesting occupations in the region along with people who have made significant life changes in order to jump start a second chapter in their work life.

DeAngelis’ first book, “Angels Unaware,” was published by Regal House Publishing LLC in 2021. Also an accomplished playwright and screenwriter, her works have garnered awards in such national competitions as the Houston International Film Festival and the Greater Philadelphia Film Office’s Shoot in Philadelphia competition. In 2019, DeAngelis, with her writing partner, Michael Naylor, was named an Emerging Playwright in the annual Phillips’ Mill Emerging Playwrights Competition for their play “Upstaged,” a comedic, behind-the-scenes look at a theatrical company and its efforts to put on a show.

With the support of The de Groot Foundation, DeAngelis will complete her upcoming novel, “Granny Panties,” with an anticipated release date in 2025.
