Pennsylvania College of Technology presented a Distinguished Alumni Award to Michael Wert, of New Hope, during its summer 2024 commencement ceremony, held Aug. 3 at the Community Arts Center.

A Williamsport native, Wert is the retired CEO of DiMark Inc., a marketing services company he co-founded in Langhorne, which became a national leader in data-driven integrated marketing, with an emphasis on insurance and health care.

Wert, a Williamsport High School graduate, attended Penn College predecessor institutions Williamsport Technical Institute and Williamsport Area Community College, earning an associate degree in technical illustration in 1967. He subsequently attended Broome Technical Community College, Bucks County Community College and Rider College for various business and technical coursework.

The Distinguished Alumni Award is presented to those who have made significant contributions in their chosen fields, demonstrated the importance of their education at Penn College or its predecessors, participated in leadership roles within the community, and demonstrated a commitment to their alma mater.

Wert served in the U.S. Army 92nd Field Artillery Battalion, 2nd Armored Division, from 1970-72, as a nuclear weapons specialist in Germany while on a leave of absence from his position with Valley Design, Johnson City, New York. He worked for Valley Design from 1967-73 as creative director and publications director. From 1973-83, he worked for Union Fidelity Life Insurance Co., Trevose, serving as senior vice president and chief marketing officer.

He co-founded DiMark in 1983, and the company grew to $100 million in net annual revenue in 13 years. DiMark went public in 1989 and was sold to Harte-Hanks Communications in 1996. Wert retired in 2005.

Wert serves on the Trinity Health North Community Advisory Committee and resides in New Hope with his wife, Susan.

He formerly served on numerous nonprofit and for-profit boards, many in his community and most connected to health care.
