New York-based contemporary dance company, Yu.S.Artistry, will present “Memories of the Moon” by choreographer Yuki Ishiguro, and a new piece by a guest choreographer, Yoshito Sakuraba at Villa Joseph Marie High School, 1180 Holland Road, Southampton, at 4:30 and 7 p.m. Saturday, July 8.
Yuki’s newest evening-length production will feature two new pieces and a piece for community dance artists.
Yuki’s newest work, “Memories of the Moon,” is inspired by the diary of a prisoner in a Japanese internment camp during WWII. The man was imprisoned in a room without clocks, so he logged the passage of time by counting the full moons.
Yuki’s choreographic works have been presented at various adjudicated dance festivals across the country, such as the Booking Dance Festival at Lincoln Center, White Wave’s Solo/Duo Festival at Dixon Place, Come Together Dance Festival at the Suzanne Roberts Theater, CDCfest at Orlando Rep Theater and the Virtual Pathway Dance Festival to name a few.
The second work is a world premiere piece choreographed for Yu.S.Artistry by one of the most celebrated and award-winning contemporary choreographers in the United States, Yoshito Sakuraba. Yoshito is the founding artistic director of Abarukas. Yoshito has presented his work around the world and across the U.S.
The third and final work will be performed by Y.u.S. Artistry’s Pennsylvania company. Yuki has been teaching at various local dance schools in Pennsylvania and has been a long-standing faculty member at Institute of Dance Artistry. Yuki’s inspiring, moving and unique style includes hints of ballet, contemporary, improvisation and break dance.
His students have gone on to pursue majors and minors in dance and many have returned home hoping to find dance performance opportunities.
Yuki’s dream is to create a professional dance company in the Bucks County area. He has hired those former students and Philadelphia-based professional dancers to perform in this production in the hopes of establishing a permanent relationship.
