Korean War Memorial service set for Saturday

Posted

A service will be conducted at the Bucks County Korean War Memorial in Doylestown Saturday to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the 1953 armistice.

The armistice and ceasefire ended three years of fighting in Korea and Saturday’s event, which begins at noon on the lawn at 55 E. Court St., will remember the Bucks County residents who died in the conflict.

The memorial, dedicated in 2000, recognizes 38 residents who died in Korea.

Saturday’s ceremony will include the reading of names, placement of a rose for each fallen service member, a rifle salute and a wreath laying.

In attendance, according to a press release, will be a U.S. Marine Corps color guard, Korean War veterans, family members of those who died in Korea, members of the public, consuls from the Republic of Korea, and members of the Korean-American community (including a Korean American children’s choir that will perform several Korean folk songs).

Families and friends of the honored dead who wish to participate in the memorial ceremony can obtain information by calling 215-630-7841.
