Middletown Friends Meeting hosts Juneteenth Celebration

Posted

A Juneteenth Celebration is scheduled this Saturday at the Middletown Friends Meetinghouse at 453 W. Maple Ave., Langhorne.

Taking place 11 a.m. until 5 p.m., there will be vendors and speakers throughout the afternoon.

In addition to vendors, throughout the day, performance artists will portray notable African Americans: Frederick Douglass, Sojourner Truth, Harriet Tubman, a Buffalo soldier, a Union soldier and Arugbo, an enslaved witness to June 19, 1865.

Representatives from legal, social and law enforcement organizations will describe the community outreach offer to the community. Nonprofit groups responsible for human and welfare services will be stationed throughout the venue.

Juneteenth is the oldest known celebration commemorating the end of slavery. In 2021 President Joe Biden signed a law naming Juneteenth a national holiday.
