New era for Warminster Library to be celebrated at “Love Your Library” event

Posted

Warminster Library has a lot to celebrate, and you are invited to the party.

The main event at the Love Your Library Reception, at 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 4, at 1076 Emma Lane, is the unveiling of the library’s new 5-year Strategic Plan, developed by the library’s Advisory Board and Director Peter Lehu.

The plan, which will guide library operations through 2029, is a culmination of two years of work by the board, analyzing library usage trends, researching community needs, reviewing responses to user and staff surveys, and interviewing community leaders.

The final plan envisions library services for the township that focus on accessibility, inclusivity, increased visibility in the community, and an expansion of resources and programs that position the library to be a cultural and social hub of Warminster.

The Love Your Library Reception will also celebrate the many completed or soon-to-be completed improvements to the library that will be the bedrock of its future growth.

Restrooms have been renovated and a third single-use, wheelchair-accessible restroom was added.

Two new study rooms were built. Residents will be able to reserve these rooms for quiet study, one-on-one meetings, or videoconferencing free of charge.

The library’s advocacy group—the Friends of Warminster Library—is funding new outdoor seating, landscaping, and electrical outlets so residents can enjoy the green spaces around the library and attend outdoor events.

With the help of advocacy work by state Rep. Brian Munroe, Warminster Library was awarded a grant by the Department of Community and Economic Development to purchase and develop a mobile computer lab, which will allow meeting spaces to be turned into classrooms for a variety of courses from basic computer skills to avoiding fake news online.

The new Strategic Plan tasks Director Lehu and his team to build on this work in coming years in various ways, including developing a new website, updating the young children’s area, providing steady computer and internet instruction, developing offsite library access points in the community, and increasing outreach and community partnerships.

The Love Your Library Reception is a free event where attendees will hear from Lehu, Board President Michelle Squiccimara, and local officials. Attendees can tour the new rooms and celebrate with light refreshments and live music. All are invited and special invitations will be sent to local government officials, community and business leaders, and members of the press.
