New Hope Borough Council supports library funding

Posted

New Hope Borough Council, at its Oct. 18 meeting approved $10,000 in new funding for the institution for the 2023 Borough budget. The library had requested a donation from the borough in this amount during its presentation to council at its workshop meeting for the 2023 budget.

In addition to this new donation, the borough provides tax funding for the library on an annual basis. So far this year, New Hope has provided the library with $33,885 in funding from the 2022 budget. As reference, to a borough taxpayer, .09 cents out of every tax dollar paid goes to the borough. Of this amount, a portion funds the library.

The Free Library of New Hope and Solebury relies on contributions from the two municipalities it serves for the funding it needs to provide a wide variety of services. Beyond books, the library provides electronic materials and access to streaming services, innovative children’s programs, and access to technology such as 3D printing.

The Borough also provides, free of charge, six parking spots on Ferry Street for patrons and 10 permitted parking spots for library staff on Buttonwood Street for a value of just over $30,000.

“New Hope Borough Council members are proud to support this important institution in our community, and look forward to working with the library as it continues to evolve,” a council press release said.
