PRO-ACT hosts events to commemorate International Overdose Awareness Day

Posted

The Council of Southeast PA, and PRO-ACT join with others around the world in coming together, to remember those who have died or suffered permanent injury due to drug overdose.

Observed on Aug. 31 every year, International Overdose Awareness Day (IOAD) seeks to create better understanding of overdose, reduce the stigma of drug-related deaths, and create change that reduces the harms associated with drug use.

On Sunday, Aug. 27, from 2-8 p,m., PRO-ACT will host a Community Picnic at the Southern Bucks Recovery Community Center, 1286 Veterans Highway, Suite D6, Bristol.

With the support of the Bucks County Drug and Alcohol Commission, Inc., the free event will include entertainment, education, prevention and create awareness. Guests can receive free Narcan and training, remember their loved ones by including them on Memorial Boards, hear from a family impacted by overdose, and a survivor’s personal story.

On Thursday, Aug. 31, PRO-ACT staff and volunteers will be in community settings throughout the region holding Overdose Awareness Narcan events. Thanks to local companies and organizations who have agreed to host a table, teams will be providing Narcan training and distribution in multiple locations in Bucks, Chester, Montgomery and Philadelphia counties. Look for them in their #EndOverdose t-shirts.
