Second Saturdays in Lambertville features art, food, shopping and more

Posted

Musicians will take to the streets, artists will fling open the doors of their studios, and merchants will offer special experiences to welcome Second Saturdays in Lambertville, N.J., from 5 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 10.

Twenty-two businesses are participating in what is the first of four Second Saturdays planned.

Artists Kelly Sullivan and Eleanor Voorhees, whose art studios are located on the third floor of the People’s Store, will be celebrating their 10th anniversary in their studio spaces that night with a huge party and showcase of new work.

Art will abound that evening with local artists Matt DeProspero, Johanna Furst, Michael Fratrich, and Siri Om in their own galleries. Meanwhile Artists’ Gallery, which features the work of 16 noted local artists, will be open Saturday night. Highlands Art Gallery casts its net wider, featuring paintings and bronze sculpture by acclaimed representational artists from around the country. Owner Cheryl Macdowall, who championed Second Saturdays, helped organize the event and is sponsoring Second Saturdays, will host a painting demonstration by gallery artist Kenn Erroll Backhaus.

Shopping is a fun part of any evening, and Lambertville is home to varied independent retail stores ranging from Pedago, who pedals electric bikes, to The People’s Store offering three floors of antiques, to artisan cheeses at Savour and chocolates at La Chocolate Box. Midiri Antiques will be having a promotion with special discounts on specific items. Savour will conduct a cheese tasting and the Chocolate Box will have a sampling and wine. Sojourner will be open with a slip knot workshop at 7:30 p.m. and all your CBD needs can be met at North of Normal on North Union Street.

“After a long hiatus due to the pandemic, we are excited to welcome vibrancy and community fun back to our streets,” said organizer Jane Wesby of Tomasello Winery. “At the winery we will be offering a curated tasting of four wines paired with either four cheeses or four chocolates.”

Every street celebration needs food and beverages, and Lambertville has a wide range of restaurants, coffee shops and ice cream outlets to choose from. Established favorite Lambertville Trading Company will be open featuring their array of fine coffees by the cup or by the pound and sweets. A new business in 2022, Peace Pies offers handcrafted ice cream sandwiches. Union Coffee’s selection of hot and iced beverages are paired with a gallery art show featuring paintings, photography, cut paper art and woodblock prints. Giuseppe’s is a second-generation restaurant with pizza and other Italian specialties mainstays on their menu, including a special Second Saturday entrée.

Additional Second Saturdays will be Oct. 8, Nov. 12 and Dec. 10.
