'Shop with a Cop' spreads holiday cheer

Posted

Police in Warrington and Franconia townships brought holiday cheer to their towns through participation in "Shop with a Cop" events this month.

The Souderton-Telford Rotary Club helped the Franconia Township Police Benevolence Association (FTPBA) make the holiday season brighter for 16 local families by raising $5,000 at its recent Cocktails and Candy Canes fundraiser.

This donation helped to fund the FTPBA’s annual Shop with a Cop event. Officers — accompanied by “elves” from the Souderton-Telford Rotary Club, students from the Souderton-Telford Rotary Interact Club, Franconia Insurance and Financial Services, JBS USA, and Souderton Area School District employees — helped the families shop not only with treats for under the tree, but also necessities like paper towels, toiletries, cleaning supplies, and diapers.

The Franconia Township police officers were joined by officers from Telford and Hatfield boroughs, while Souderton Borough’s officers provided back-up coverage during the event.

Warrington Township Police Department held its fifth annual “Shop with a Cop” event Dec. 7, at the Walmart Supercenter in Warrington.

Twenty-two officers were on hand to shop with 35 elementary school students who live in Warrington Township and attend Barclay, Mill Creek and Titus Elementary schools. The officers helped the children select and purchase holiday gifts for their family members and something special for themselves.

Warrington Police Department worked with the elementary schools to identify families in need and the department received a grant from Walmart and a donation from the Warrington Rotary Club to help pay for the gifts.
