Solebury resident Arthur Ross mourned

Posted

Solebury Supervisor Chair Mark Baum Baicker mourned the loss of one of the township’s “treasured residents,” Art Ross, who died June 3 at the age of 74.

Baum Baicker, at the Tuesday board of supervisors meeting, said “Like me, Art grew up on Long Island but unlike me, he didn’t let that slow him down one bit.

“He found his way to Solebury in 1980, with his wife of nine years, Carol Ross. We all know Carol, who is the outstanding photographer for the (Bucks County) Herald.

“Art spent a decade on our Park and Recreation Board and was very involved in the early days of land preservation in Solebury.

“He was an adventurer at heart. He was an avid sailor, held a Master’s License with the Coast Guard, was very active in the Coast Guard Auxiliary. He taught sailing for 10 years at the New Hope Community School. He was also a serious cyclist who by some accounts logged over 10,000 miles on his bike.

“And Art was a big fan for the Philadelphia Flyers, which is how I met him when my daughter was a Flyers broadcaster and he had made contact with her.

“On top of that, Art was just an all-around great guy – a true family man who loved his wife, son, daughter, and grandchildren – as well as his many friends.

“He will be missed. Our thoughts are with Carol.”
