Women’s Aviation Day set for Van Sant Airfield

Posted

The pilots at Van Sant Airfield in Erwinna (https://www.vansantairport.com), with The Ninety-Nines (https://www.ninety-nines.org), an international organization of women pilots who promote the advancement of aviation through education, scholarships, and mutual support, are holding an event at Van San Airfield on Friday, Aug. 9.

Their target audience for the event is young women age 14 and up. The event is called Women’s Aviation Day.

This will be a “free, fun, day-long introduction” to aviation through various presentations and discussions with a panel of women from general aviation pilots to professionals working in commercial aviation, air traffic control, the military and maintenance.

The day will be structured to encourage discussion and break down the barriers that might deter women from pursuing opportunities in the field – from pilots to the engineers and scientists that make all of aviation possible. Then the attendees will experience a 15-20 minute flight over Bucks County.

The airplanes at Van Sant Airfield include a number of beautiful vintage airplanes such as a 1929 Travel Air, Stearmans, a Waco, Piper Cubs and more, some of which will be used for the flights.
