Casey’s views on impact of transgender athletes “radically out of step”

Posted

As the mother of two daughters in high school/college sports and competitive Irish Dance, I can attest to the value youth sports and fair competition have on young women. They build confidence, instill work ethic, teach you how to deal with adversity and create a sense of community and camaraderie that can’t be matched.

Today, the sanctity of girls’ sports is under threat by transgender competitors. It’s fundamentally unfair, and it’s a threat to the safety and well being of our girls. Our young women could lose those life lessons. Will sports scholarships be next?

That’s why it’s shocking to hear Bob Casey say Pennsylvania parents’ concerns “rest upon overgeneralized and often unfounded assumptions” about transgender women.

What’s unfounded about Lia Thomas, of the University of Pennsylvania, stealing the NCAA Division I Women’s 500-yard Freestyle event in 2022 or high school girls being injured on the volleyball court by transgender athletes?

Was it unfounded when 15-year-old Chelsea Mitchell described how two transgender athletes “eliminated girls from advancement opportunities more than 85 times” in a July 2023 piece in Newsweek (https://www.newsweek.com/women-sport-transgender-athletes-1810782)?

Casey’s complete disregard for the real situations rocking high school and collegiate sports is radically out of step.

Dave McCormick, Casey’s opponent this election gets it. He’s the father of six daughters and a former D1 athlete himself. He understands the importance of protecting our daughters.
