The Bristol Cultural and Historical Foundation will celebrate Lafayette Sunday as author Bruce Mowday gives a presentation titled “Lafayette: An American Hero Receives a Grand Reception.”
The event marks the beginning of a celebration of the 200th anniversary of the Frenchman’s 1824-25 return visit to America, where, in 1781, he helped General George Washington win the decisive Battle of Yorktown at the tail end of the Revolutionary War.
Lafayette’s return included a stop in Bristol Borough.
Mowday wrote a book about him entitled “Lafayette at Brandywine: The Making of an American Hero.”
Sunday’s lecture starts at 2 p.m. at the foundation’s headquarters at 321 Cedar St., Bristol. Light refreshments will be served. A donation of $5 per person is suggested. Students attend for free. For more information, call 215-788-7537.
