As a concerned resident of Bucks County and an advocate for our community, I am writing to express my sincere request regarding the upcoming fireworks displays planned from May through September.
While fireworks are a cherished tradition and bring joy to many, it’s essential to consider their impact on our environment, pets and veterans.
1.) Wildlife: Fireworks can cause distress to local wildlife, disrupting their habitats and natural behaviors. Birds, small mammals and aquatic creatures are particularly vulnerable during these events.
2.) Pets: Many pets experience extreme anxiety and fear due to the loud noises associated with fireworks. This can lead to stress-related health issues and even escape attempts.
3.) Veterans with PTSD: For veterans who suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), fireworks can trigger traumatic memories and exacerbate symptoms. Sudden loud noises can be deeply distressing.
Given these concerns, I kindly urge the New Hope Chamber of Commerce to explore alternative options, such as “quiet fireworks.”
These alternatives use visual effects without the intense noise, allowing us to celebrate while minimizing harm to our community.
By adopting quieter alternatives, we can strike a balance between tradition and compassion. I believe that our community’s well-being should be at the forefront of our decisions.
