Target cuts the ribbon on Doylestown Borough store

With a loud, “Let’s bring the Bullseye to Doylestown,” the long-awaited Target opened its doors to invited guests Monday in the Doylestown Shopping Center.

The official opening is 8 a.m. Sunday.

While the 74,500-square-foot department store is a midsize one for the company, it offers everything its other stores do, and more, said Josh Wheaton, the store’s director. In addition to a food market, a Starbucks and a CVS, Doylestown’s Target has an Ulta, a popular beauty products chain not found in other Targets, he said.

Various Doylestown community leaders and government officials attended the event, including borough council president Jack O’Brien.

“It’s good to see it here, it’s been empty so long,” he said of the vacant space in the North Main Street shopping complex.

Borough Mayor Noni West agreed.

“The community’s been asking for months when it would open,” she said. “It’s good for Doylestown, it brings jobs and a vast selection,” she said, looking out into the gleaming aisles of clothing and full shelves of products of all kinds.

For those who may be concerned about the store detracting from downtown borough stores, West said, she didn’t think a Target would compete with small businesses. And, she noted, “Shoppers will wander into town.”

As he welcomed visitors into the store, Wheaton, dressed in the Target trademark bright red shirt, said it was “super exciting for the community and the Target team to be in Doylestown. We’re excited to see what the future holds here.”

Target is the fifth department store to occupy space since the center opened in 1959. The last one was Bon-Ton, which closed in 2018.
